West Chester United Soccer Club will again be collecting gently used soccer equipment at our 2012 West Chester Summer Classic here in West Chester, PA during the weekend of Aug 3-5.
This year, West Chester United Soccer Club will be honoring the memory of local soccer players within our club and local community whose lives were tragically lost.
In memory of Andrew Hicks the Andrew L. Hicks Foundation (www.andrewhicksjrfoundation.org) will distribute equipment in the Chester, PA community in conjunction with the William Trippley Youth Development Fund (www.wtydf.org). In memory of Katie Urban, La Iglesias Congregation in Toughkennomen PA will receive equipment for their youth recreational program. In memory of Ian Miller from Coventry Soccer, In Ian’s Boots (www.iniansboots.org) will distribute cleats to a number of children’s communities in need. Used soccer equipment collection bins will be located at each playing field during both days of the tournament so please take a few minutes to go through your equipment at home and bring your outgrown items for donation at the tournament.
As Director of WCUSC’s Community Develop Program, I am very grateful to our members and visiting teams who are dedicated every year in collecting soccer equipment for the Passback Program. It is great to see players eyes light up and their enthusiasm for the game grow when they receive balls, cleats, and apparel from the Passback program. The players that we collect for are truly in need of the programs we deliver and the equipment we are able to provide. - Mark Thomas (WCUSC Director of Soccer Programs & Coaching)
