WCUSC Alumnus Trains with Liverpool FC
(January 13, 2009) WCUSC alumnus Kelly Keelan (Predators’87G) recently trained with the Liverpool Football Club (England) Women’s Academy.  For information on the "Liverpool FC Ladies," click here.  Kelly provided her observations on the experience below...

"Back in December my family and I visited family in Liverpool, England, over the Christmas and New Year holidays. During my visit I had the opportunity to attend Liverpool Football Clubs women’s Academy training sessions.

What an experience and honor it was for me to train with English, Irish and Welsh elite players. The players ages ranged from 16 to 28.  When I met the girls for the first time they made me feel comfortable in a way that made me relaxed and allowed me to be myself and feel at home.

What I first noticed from the games we played was the speed of play, the mind set of players and intensity (no time to a breath) in which they played each game and this was just practice.  The practices that I attended, the players worked very hard and made every game and drill very competitive.

As a player I learned a lot from Liverpool’s coaching staff and thank them for the terrific experience I had. Our practices were disciplined and structured I will always have this memory and will take what I had learn’t to the playing field.

In the future when I am a coach, I will use the training skills and drills that I was exposed to in my training sessions with my players.  It was a great experience for me and if I had the opportunity to do it again I would jump at it."
